> Using it well.

What else to say? Rick nails it again, although in this case I suppose it is technically Mark Chandler, General Counsel for Cisco Systems, at the CIO Summit in San Franscisco. Quote: Technology is absolutely the only way firms will stay efficient and effective. Those who don't use it well won't survive.

Not: those who don't use it won't survive, but: those who don't use it well won't survive. "Using it well" does not mean "throw applications and databases and portals and intranets at attorneys" and see what sticks. It is about taking the time to figure out what internal and external needs are not being met, and then applying the correct technology solution, all while being cognizant of what is happening elsewhere in the industry and how a firm's decisions today may affect what services it can offer for its clients in the future.
