> Atlas is...shrugging?

I saw this article today, indicating a resurgence of interest in Atlas Shrugged in the last few months.

Atlas Shrugged devotees say America's wealth builders will never go on strike the way Rand described, but they say a quasistrike is underway. "It's not organized, but it's happening," Joyce says.

For example, since the Enron scandal, CEOs are refusing to sit on boards of other companies, thereby withholding their business savvy from the market. About 60% of executives are turning down offers to serve on boards vs. 25% a year ago, Christian says.  [USA Today] via [iFeminists]

Very interesting.

> DC AIDS Ride announced for 2003.

The replacement ride for the former Washington DC AIDS Ride has been announced and the website (www.tourdefriends.com) is now live.  I did the Palotta-sponsored ride this year and it was fantastic, but the financial returns were dismal.  One of the beneficiaries, the DC-based Food & Friends, is taking over management for the 2003 replacement ride.  The ride will cover 330 miles over almost 4 days and is fully supported.

If you like to cycle, or would be interested in crewing, take a look at the site and sign up.  Every little penny counts.  Plus, they have a cool logo...

That employee was just dumb.

S-T-U-P-I-D dumb.   But it does make for entertaining reading of the point-your-finger-and-laugh variety...

> History lesson: IM

Huh.  Interesting little article about the history of instant messaging from the MIT Technology Review

I did not know that IM started at MIT, although I suppose I could have guessed that if I had thought about it.  I only use AOL's Instant Messenger at the moment, mostly because MSN messenger doesn't stay connected through the office firewall (which is, I imagine, a good thing).
